Engraving: scroll type often associated with Gustav Young with one scroll left side of barrel housing terminating into stylized dog’s head. Engraved on the back strap “Presented to A.G. West / By friends in Colt’s Armory / July 1864”.

Notes:  Amos G. West (1828-1892) was a pistolmaker and employee of Samuel Colt during the Civil War.
