DESIRABLE WINCHESTER 1866 ENGRAVED LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

Bbl. 24 1/4″ oct. w/ top flat having 2 line marking showing King’s improvement patent dates of March 29, 1866 & Oct. 18 1860. German silver blade front sight w/ fixed V notch rear sight. Full length mag. Brass frame w/ nearly full coverage New York style engraving. Side plates have unadorned medallions surrounded by arabesque scroll & punch dot backgrounds that extend to front, rear, lower & upper portions of frame as well as upper & lower tangs. Front ring has lg. X surrounded by dot & line highlights. Bottom of lifter has X & dot engraving. Bottom of receiver forward of lever has rectangular box w/ initials “JPE” that appear the signature of an unidentified engraver. Brass forearm cap has matching scroll engraving. Walnut forearm & straight grip stock w/ brass crescent trapdoor buttplate having matching engraving. Left inside of lower tang are stamped “X”, “F” & “E”. Top tang channel of stock & inside toe of buttplate has matching numbers “5521”. Stock under buttplate is stamped “0”. Toeline of stock & forearm cap have original sling swivels. S# indicates 1872 Mfg.
