24 1/2″, 2/3 rnd., 1/3 oct. ribbed bbl. has matted top surfaces holding 1 standing & 1 folding leaf U notch rear sight & longitudily dovetailed steel bead front. Milled out portion of rib is engraved “J. P. Sauer & Sohn Suhl”. Gold bands are around breech end. Model 88 action w/ turned down flat bolt handle, is fitted w/ dbl. set triggers. Action & magazine assembly are engraved w/ near full coverage exceptionally well detailed scrolling acanthus w/ shaded background. Receiver ring is semi relief engraved w/ the quartering head & paws of a snarling bear in background of fence & trees. Right side of magazine assembly portrays batting stags in an oval vignette. Left side shows 3 roebuck scattering in open clearing. A flip up aperture rear sight adj. for windage & elevation folds behind top tang. Full length stock of nicely marbled European walnut has schnabled horn tip & attaches to bbl. w/ 2 side bolts through engraved oval escutcheons. Pistol grip is formed from scrolled horn. Stock measures 15 1/4″ over broadly checkered steel buttplate w/ trap. A nicely sculpted cheekpiece is on left side. Point pattern checkering is at grip & forend. A vacant silver shield is on toeline along w/ sling loop that matches bail type sling mounting on forend.
