There are 75 wartime letters plus misc. family documents of the Walker family. There are 60 soldier letters written by Marcus Walker to his parents & about 15 letters written to Marcus Walker from his family, friends & soldiers in the field, all war dated. Letters range from Oct. 1861 to late 1864. About half of the letters are from the Atlanta & Savannah campaign. During Atlanta Campaign, Walker is detailed to the ambulance corps., where he stays the rest of the war, so letters written to him in 1864 are addressed “1st Brigade, Ambulance Corps., 1st Division/20th AC”. Most letters retain their envelopes & there are several w/ patriotic stationary & covers. Marcus Walker entered service Sept. 19th 1862 into Company E 141st New York & mustered out Jun. 8th 1865.
