PRE-86 DEALER SAMPLE (KEEPER) GUATEMALAN CONTRACT ARMALITE AR-10 SELECT FIRE RIFLE

03-1836
Cal.7.62 NATO
S# 003092

Bbl. 20″ The most popular modern sporting rifle in the United States is absolutely the AR-15. The Granddaddy of this rifle is the AR-10, chambered in 7.62 NATO & manufactured in the mid 1950’s. It was adopted by several military units, outside the United States including Sudan, Portugal & even Cuba. ArmaLite licensed manufacturing rights to a Dutch manufacturer called Artillerie-Inrichtingen (A.I.) in 1957 where they were primarily manufactured in the early 1960s. Despite substantial sales to the governments of Sudan & Portugal, logistical problems would soon cause manufacture to cease & the focus would come back to the United States in the development of the successor, the AR-15. This example is an original Armalite AR10 manufactured in the Netherlands. Since it was a machine gun, imported into the United States after 1968, it is classified by the BATF as a “Pre-86 Dealer Sample”, often referred to as a “Keeper”, since it can be owned by an individual, as long as it was purchased while holding an FFL / SOT. Dark black finish on all exposed metal surfaces. Barrel is terminated w/ ventilated 3 prong flash hider forward of bottom mounted bayonet lug w/ correct ventilated barrel shroud. Tall, protected blade front sight coincides w/ adjustable peep sight mounted inside the rear of the carry handle. Rear sight wheel is marked w/ numbers ranging from “1” to “6”. Charging handle resides between carry handle & receiver, directly above the dust cover. What appears to be Dark brown synthetic furniture has been painted greyish green on the forend & shoulder stock. The pistol grip retains the original brown color., which has a Bakelite look to it. Metal buttplate incorporates functional trap door. No forward assist or brass deflector behind spring assisted dust cover. Slab side lower receiver marked on mag well on left side; “PATENTS PENDING / ARMALITE / AR10 / MFD BY NEDERLAND” w/ logo & serial number. Safety selector marked; “Auto-Safe-Semi” on left side of lower receiver. Sling swivels, front on left side & rear on bottom of shoulder stock, currently sporting tan canvas sling. MAGS: 5 waffle pattern 20 rd. marked “ArmaLite Patents Pending” on floorplate.
