FINE CONFEDERATE INSCRIBED CONNING FOOT OFFICER SWORD TO LT. AMERICUS REID, 5th GEORGIA

Classic James Conning foot officer’s sword, 32.5″ unstopped fuller blade, gold plated hilt, scroll decorated quillon unique among Confederate swords to Conning. Blade is numbered “68” which matches number on 2 scabbard mounts and scabbard body. The numbered throat has factory inscribed “A. Reid” in same fancy script as the maker mark “James Conning / Mobile / Ala”. Americus Reid left Georgia September 1861 for Mobile and was stationed across bay at Pensacola, Florida. The 5th GA had long service in Army of Tennessee.
