MULLER-DENTZEL CAROUSEL FIGURE OF A STANDING HORSE FROM KNOTT’S BERRY FARM CAROUSEL.
05-983
Gustav Dentzel (1844-1909) was one of the earliest carousel makers; summertime was when he, his father and family would travel around southwest Germany with a carousel ride, during the “off season” they would make wagons, carousel animals and mechanisms out of wood, which is where Gustav learned the art of woodworking from his father. When he was 20 years old, his father sent he and his brothers to the U.S. with one carousel to try their luck. D.C. Muller Brothers (1890-1928) were master carvers for Dentzel, PTC and others. With their incredible attention to detail and proportions, they created some of the finest and most sought after carousel figures carved. Knott’s Berry Farm is the oldest theme park in the U.S. and is Southern California’s original theme park which is still in business today. The black horse with nicely detailed carved mane and tail, brown glass eyes, forward pointing ears and raised left front hoof. The saddle with metal and leather stirrups. Horse is adorned with blue blanket and drapery, bridle and harness accented with scrolled decorations in pink, brown, tan and maroon accents. SIZE: 63” h x 63” l.
