Cal. 9mm
S# 2022

Bbl. 10″. Of all the German WWII era SMGs, the MP40 may be the most iconic of them all. Its slow cyclic rate combined w/ decent sights & pleasant ergonomics make it as fun to operate as it is interesting to look at. It utilizes a very simplistic, yet incredibly smooth open bolt firing mechanism. The recoil system is typical of German over engineering consisting of a 3 piece telescoping rod w/ a captured spring that doubles as the connection point for the firing pin which slides inside of the bolt. The safety mechanism is an extremely simple design which shares commonalties w/ other WWII era SMGs. It consists of a rearward notch that interfaces w/ the cocking handle holding the bolt to the rear. Hooded fixed blade front sight, rear sight is windage drift adj., 2 piece folding leaf. This particular example was manufactured by DLO of Stamford CT., utilizing the majority of what appears to be original C.G. Haenel, German parts. This MP40 utilizes a third generation mag. housing which includes the ribs for strength & square notch facing the shooter. Outwardly marked parts possess several waffenamts & numbers, & it appears to have been assembled primarily from the gun matching the number used by DLO in the NFA registry. Number 2022, or the shorter variations appear on receiver tube, bolt, front sight & even the firing pin. A few other parts, such as the rear sights, do not have matching numbers. The original style ribbed, extruded, tubular receiver is stamped on bottom; “DLO STMFD CT”. Rear trunnion bears waffenamt w/ code “WaA165”, as well as “MP40 / fxo / 41”. Front sight assembly, forward of resting bar & under folding stock, marked w/ Eagle over “37”. Barrel marked w/ German party symbol. Brown Bakelite grips w/ matching brown Bakelite lower receiver cover. MAGS: 9 Metal 32 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 2 “fxo” marked mag loaders, book “The MP40 Submachine Gun” by Mike Ingram, 2 small copies of the German publication “Die Maschinenpistole 40” w/ 1 larger English translated copy by John Baum. CONDITION: blued finish is very dark, consistent & complete on all exposed metal surfaces. Stock locks properly in both folded & extended positions. Grips appear in nice condition free of any obvious damage. Bakelite lower receiver cover has normal light scratches & handling marks but in terrific condition compared to the vast majority of those encountered. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. Good bore w/ extremely strong rifling. PROVENANCE: Acquired by our consignor directly from Doug Oefinger in 2005. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT SMG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE.
