This gun has outstanding Pre War style Pigeon grade engraving by Jasper Salerno, who apprenticed under John & Nick Kusmit & worked from 1968-1977. Salerno, like several in house engravers, continued to work after leaving Winchester. Full coverage engraving features 2 pointers & 2 partridge on a right side woodland scene w/ 4 flying mallards on left side marsh scene. Fancy borders are found above & below scenes which are highlighted by vine type foliate scroll engraving w/ punch dot backgrounds. Additional scroll work is found on front, rear, top & bottom receiver areas as well as trigger guard bow, forend extension & breech end of bbls. A single gold band accent is found on breech end of bbl. forward of extension w/ pigeon on bottom. The signature “J. L. SALERNO” is found on the bottom of the receiver forward of the loading port. Breech bolt & carrier have custom jeweling. Beavertail forearm & pistol grip stock of fancy black walnut have Winchester Repeating Arms stamped steel grip cap. Factory style B carving is by former Custom Shop checkerer, John Durkin.
