UNIQUE COLT PATERSON MODEL 1839 SHOTGUN MADE WITH RAMROD, SN 50
inv# 01-19095
Cal. 62.
S# 50.
Bbl. 28.5″ smoothbore Damascus.
The model 1839 shotgun is one of the rarest of all Paterson firearms, amazing that there are two variants in this auction. It was the most powerful and devastating of Paterson arms.
No more than 225 were manufactured, no two survivors are the same. This is an honest “as found” uncleaned example with dark patina and only example we are aware with original integral bottom rib with three pipes for ramrod. The standard 3.5″ cylinder has longitudinal crack in one chamber which was an inherent flaw in Paterson cylinders as many were returned to Colt for repair. Right side of barrel lug has script patent markings terminating with “snake and star” like on Texas Patersons.
