AUSTRALIAN CONTRACT FN HIGH POWER L9A1 PISTOL

25-1627
Cal. 9mm L9A1
S# T125868

This very seldom seen L9A1 military pistol with black enamel finish was made for Australia as reflected by the specifically added “PISTOL SELF LOADING” prefix to the slide address. It is otherwise very similar to the later form of British L9A1 pistols with the NATO stock number on most major parts and the “9mm L9A1” reference added to the slide address. The pistol is a fixed sight High Power made in 1963 with a later form slide and external extractor. The left side of the slide is marked with the usual two-line FN address to which has been added the previously referenced markings. Broad arrow proof on the left side of the trigger guard. The right side of the gun has limited Belgian proofs and stacked, matching serial numbers on the barrel, slide and frame. Black plastic grips, the left panel recessed for a lanyard ring, and correct magazine with aluminum follower, phosphate body, and button-retained floorplate marked with the NATO stock numbers and the year 1963. No import marks. An identically marked pistol, just a few SNs away, is pictured in the Vanderlinden book, “FN Browning Pistols”, 3rd Edition, Vol II, pages, 784, 785.
