5″. One of only an estimated 1,000 HP (Swedish designation: M/39) pistols mfg. by Walther in 1939 and delivered in 1940 under contract for the Swedish military. Listed by S# on page 123 of “The P.38 Pistol” by Alexander Krutzek, this example is marked with the Walther banner logo, followed by “Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehlis (Thur)/ Walther’s Patent Cal. 9 m/m” and the model designation “Mod. HP” on the left side of the slide. Right side of the frame is marked with the S# “H1770”, followed by a Crown/N commercial nitro proof, which is also present on the right side of the slide and bbl. block. Metal components exhibit a lustrous, high-polish blue finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece WWII production grooved black pressed resin grips. Blade front sight, with U-notch rear sight. Checkered takedown lever with external extractor and rectangular firing pin. Matching numbers are present on the frame, slide (interior), bbl., and locking block. Mag. is a post-war “11/64” dated replacement. MAGS: one 8-rd.
