RARE “BUFFALO SOLDIER” MODEL 1870 SPRINGFIELD SADDLE RING CARBINE

Model 1870 Trapdoor Carbines are very scarce with less than 400 made. The “E9” brand on right side of buttstock denotes company E, 9th US Cavalry. There are many spurious 9th and 10th Cavalry marked carbines and pistols. We have little doubt that this example is absolutely original and authentic. It is pictured in 1972 Jackson Arms catalog when the markings were unknown and there was much less interest in African American contributions to the Indian Wars then.

UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of pages from Jackson Arms catalog, Dallas TX 1972 showing this rare carbine and same configuration and markings.

PROVENANCE: Red Jackson catalog 1972; Martin Lane Historic & Western Americana Lifetime Collection.
