EXCEPTIONAL & MASSIVE CHEVALIER “CALIFORNIA KNIFE”

18.25″ overall, 12.5″ spearpoint blade, .35″ thick, over 1.5” wide and weighs a hefty 2 pounds out of the sheath. “CHEVALIER’S CALIFORNIA KNIFE” stamped lengthwise on blade, & maker marked “J. D. CHEVALIER / NEW YORK” on ricasso. Antler grip is finely checkered on one side, pinned brass pommel cap. brass guard is extra heavy .5″ thick, retains original protective fabric washer. Sheath is leather veneer over paper, brass mounted with brass loop on throat.
CONDITION: fine overall, sharpened, but retains most original polish & luster, light staining & pitting. Mounts have dark uncleaned brass patina. Sheath is very good retaining most of its original red Moroccan veneer with scattered scuffs and scratches.
