RUGER NO. 1-AB “ENGINEERING SAMPLE” SINGLE SHOT RIFLE

23-6826
Cal. 280 Rem
S# 61D

Bbl. 22″ sightless w/ quarter rib. Beavertail forearm & steel capped pistol grip stock of fiddle grained walnut w/ swivel bases & solid red pad. Point pattern checkering is the early wraparound style on the forend. Only 3 rifles have the “D” suffix indicating duplicate serial number. Only 10 pre-suffix rifles were chambered in 280 Rem. Purchased by consignor on a Ruger factory auction. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from Sturm, Ruger & Co, Inc., certifying this firearm was a part of the Ruger factory collection. The letter details the following information, “Model: Ruger No. 1 Standard Rifle / Serial Number: 61D / Caliber: .280 Remington / Testfire Date: February 23, 1971 / Special Features: This is likely an engineering sample as the .280 Rem. caliber was first listed in the 1969 Ruger price sheets as a special order item with a longer barrel option. This caliber did not appear again until the 1980 Ruger price sheets as a caliber option for the No. 1-B and No. 1-V models. The ‘D’ to the right of the serial number indicates a duplicate serial number. ‘STURM, RUGER & CO. INC., SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A.’ is stamped on the top of the barrel. It has a 22 inch barrel, a beautiful American walnut stock with a satin finish, and a red rubber buttpad with embossed Ruger eagle logo. The pistol grip and semi-beaver-tail forearm are hand-checkered to a borderless design. Ruger scope rings can be mounted on the quarter rib”. Also includes original box w/ matching serial number. Box contains instruction manual, registration card, NRA card, Ruger rings, trigger lock, sling swivels & allen wrench. Serial numbered travel ticket dated 6/23/06 w/ gold Ruger Archives loan tag.
