EXCEPTIONAL AESTHETIC MOVEMENT INLAID ROSEWOOD PIER MIRROR / ETAGERE BY POTTIER & STYMUS

Circa 1860s – 1880. The carved crest with oval pale jade green hand-painted patera depicting a classical cherub within a border of leaf tips above gilt drapery swag, flanked by demi lune foliate ears. The central mirror plate within a molded and inlaid frame mounted with four dish-top display shelves, further flanked by narrow mirror plates and bordered by inlaid pilasters headed by gilt bronze classical female busts with dog’s head corbels at the base.
The case sides are concave, each with two additional round shelves with floral marquetry panels. The base of the mirror is concave with a molded shelf above a simulated drawer with central ebonized, gilt and foliate carved cartouche within a decorated panel on a molded plinth. The overall effect of this piece is truly breathtaking and exemplifies the height of mid-Victorian design.
