JAMES E. BUTTERSWORTH (1817-1894, American) FRIGATE ENTERING PORTSMOUTH

This unsigned oil on canvas depicting a three masted frigate sailing right to left through a series of smaller sailing vessels off the harbor, a lighthouse visible on a bluff in middle distance. White capped turbulence between towering clouds and blue skies. Housed in a gold gilt molded frame with name plate. On reverse an old N.R. Omell Gallery tag is affixed on frame and stretcher identifying the painting.
SIZE: Sight is 18″ x 24″. Overall is 23″ x 29″.
