RARE AND FINE 16 GA. REMINGTON MODEL 1894 “DEO” GRADE LATE PRODUCTION DOUBLE SHOTGUN

Cal. 16 Ga., 2 9/16″. S# P140663 (1910).
Most likely made for grouse and woodcock, this fairly lightweight well balanced gun has 28″ bbls. with slightly raised matted rib. Tops of bbls. are engraved “Remington Arms Co. Ilion. N.Y. U.S.A.” “Krupp Fluid Steel”. Bbl. flats are stamped with serial number. Bottom of lumps are stamped “D” “P” and “51”. Bottoms of bbls. are lightly stamped “XME”?. Case hardened boxlock action is filed with raised top of breech yielding a single sighting plane and features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved in minimal “D” style (probably specially ordered) with small sprays of scroll eminating from geometric borders surrounding dog and game scenes. A pair of pointers are on left side of action and setters on right. A curly haired spaniel is about to retrieve a downed grouse on trigger plate. Another spaniel’s head retrieving a duck is on trigger guard bow, serial number is on tang. Superbly fiddle figured and well veined flesh toned European walnut, fancy horn capped, pistolgrip buttstock measures 14 1/8″ over ribbed horn buttplate. Stock features checkered sidepanels, classic Remington arrowhead drop points and well cut multi point pattern checkering at grip. A vacant gold oval is on toeline. Matching splinter Remington ejector forend with Anson type release has ejector patent dates on iron.
