VERY FINE & RARE BLOCKADE RUN “HALFMANN & TAYLOR” CONFEDERATE STAFF SWORD.

33″ Blade etched with dropped wing eagle with “CSA” in shield & 11 stars are in a crescent above eagle’s head on both sides. Etched at ricasso: “Halfmann & Taylor, Montgomery Alabama & London”. Sword is iron mounted in style of best English officer sword of the day, but with Confederate embellishments.
The large basket of hilt has pierced work with central oval medallion engraved with the Confederate droop winged eagle, emblazoned with CSA across its breast below eleven stars representing 11 Confederate States. Sharkskin grip with triple fancy wire wrap, fluted ferrule at base. Sword retains its original tarred leather protector inside basket and the protective washer, both features rarely seen.
This sword would be difficult to upgrade and there are very few examples extant.
