Every so often an item transcends it original purpose & blurs the lines between form & function. The knowledge, passion, materials & time all work together in sync to bring forth a work of art where its beauty is only matched by it mechanical perfection. There are very few items that fall into this category but the Furr Arms Gatling Guns are solidly at the top of that list. Each piece manufactured & assembled by hand from intricate detailed parts cast in their own private foundry, the Furr Arms Gatling is as comfortable in the category of artistic beauty as it is a mighty machine. The concept of manufacturing these scale model Gatlings was born in 1968 as a challenge from a neighbor & grew into these works of art as we are familiar w/ today. Requiring hands on, fitted precision from pouring the molten brass to final fit & finish, each gun requires approx. 250 hours to complete. The final result is a ballet of nickel plating, polished brass & meticulously treated black walnut capable of firing at rates up to 700 rds. per minute.
This particular example the 1874, feeds from its custom 220 rd. Broadwell drum & rests atop its select walnut, brass trimmed carriage complete w/ a functioning traverse & elevation mechanism. This work of art measures 24″ in width & approx. 40″ in length & weighs in at a whopping 50 lbs. Even though this exotic arm boasts a fast firing rate, it is not considered a machine gun under federal law but simply a “firearm”. Aside from any specific draconian state law all that is required to purchase is a standard BATF form 4473.
