POSSIBLE INDIAN CAPTURED EARLY AINSWORTH COLT SINGLE ACTION, SN# 3578.

Standard configuration, “as found” potential Indian used Colt Single Action Army, manufactured early 1874, from lot 4 which were mostly issued to the 2nd & 4th US cavalry. S# 3632 is documented revolver found 6 or 7 miles from the Custer battlefield in 1880, possibly captured at the Battle of Rosebud where 2nd cavalry saw action. Kopek notes: “The overall external appearance of this revolver would tend to make this writer believe that our example revolver had been Indian captured.” Revolver is missing loading assembly & appears purposely removed. S#s & US surcharge have been purposely obliterated consistent w/ possible Indian use.
