RARE OVERSIZED SIGNED & INSCRIBED PHOTO OF “CAPTAIN JACK” CRAWFORD, 1883, FT CRAIG, NM

8.25″ x 4″ photo by Baker & Johnston, Evanston, WY who are best known for series of circa 1881-1882 native American cabinet cards. This unusual size format studio photo shows Capt. Jack posed against painted backdrop wearing rawhide fringed fur lined coat, 1850 eagle buckle belt, boots with attached spurs, and his signature broad brimmed hat. Signed at bottom “yours truly, JW CRAWFORD / Capt. Jack / Chief of Scouts”. Reverse signed again “To JH Alexander compliments of JW Crawford / Capt. Jack / Ft. Craig, NM Jany. 1st 1883” in a postscript he asks “How would this do for a 3 sheet or litho / Jack”; Alexander must have been his publisher.
